What happened to Day 20 of November’s daily adventures? Well, let me explain.
I’m a rule follower. I follow the rules all the time. To a fault really. I’ve missed out on countless opportunities (and parking spots) because I followed the rules when others didn’t. It’s a personal choice and basically I’m more comfortable knowing that I did the right thing versus the opposite but sometimes I do feel like the good girl who ended up last.
Yesterday I was very busy running around doing errands, chauffeuring my children to their activities and finally (!!) getting my hair done at a salon. I just didn’t have time to fit in an adventure – not a real one anyhow. Later, I was out for dinner with a few of my good friends celebrating a new job, an up-coming birthday (mine), some new business ventures and a return to school.
It was a much needed and much enjoyed evening for all of us but I was a bit preoccupied the whole time. What was I going to write about for my daily adventure? I’d successfully made it to Day 20 of my 30-day challenge. I couldn’t break the chain now! The thought of NOT meeting the challenge for the day was stressing me out. And then it hit me.
NOT following my own rule of having an adventure EVERY day in November might actually be an adventure for me. An adventure into the unknown territory of just letting myself break a rule and being OK with it. I made the decision in my mind right there and then to skip Day 20 in my month-long challenge. A few minutes later “Happy Birthday” was being sung and handmade cannoli’s were presented to the table. It was like a sign that I had made the right decision. Sometimes you just have to live in the moment and let things go. Thank you Nodo restaurant for having impeccable timing.
Finally I was able to fully enjoy my evening.
I do feel a little guilty today though.
In an effort to even things out I have planned a few big adventures for the last week of my month-long adventure-a-day challenge. I’m going to finally cross off one of my bucket list items next week, try out a few new activities and finish off the challenge with another weekend get-away. Stay tuned!!
Did you have an adventure yesterday?
There needs to be a “Love” button! :-)
